Science Experiment

We had fun making a fountain using Diet Coke and Mentos. We found out that Mint Mentos make a better fountain than Fruit Mentos because they have more nucleation sites (bumps). The carbon dioxide in Diet Coke latches onto the bumps of the Mint Mentos causing more fizz.

Pancake Tuesday

On Shrove Tuesday, 12th February 2013, we were very busy making pancakes. We served the pancakes with butter, lemon and sugar. We enjoyed sharing the pancakes with everyone in Ballinahown N.S.

BRIDGE BUILDING

In December we built a bridge from newspaper and tape. Firstly, we researched different bridges around the world. We decided to build a tower bridge like London Bridge.
We rolled up sheets of newspaper to make the bottom of the bridge stable. Then we built the towers by rolling up more newspaper and sticking the rolls together with tape. We put the two towers in a triangular shape to balance the weight of the bridge.
We tested the bridge using weights. We found out that the bridge could hold 3.6kg (3600g).It took a lot of time and work to finish the bridge and we are very proud of it. We call our bridge ‘The Pyramid Bridge’ because it is a triangular shape!
